Company Profile
In 1880
the Bertie and Willoughby Mutual was formed by a group of farmers
who were unable to purchase insurance at a reasonable cost and therefore
got together to form their own insurance company. In 1898 the Clinton
Mutual was formed under similar circumstances. These two companies
operated independently until 1970 when they amalgamated and Bertie
and Clinton Mutual was formed.
We are a member of the Ontario Mutual Insurance Association (OMIA)
which has a long history of serving the farm mutuals in Ontario.
Bertie and Clinton has paid out claims for many of its members
but we are also protected by our reinsurer the Farm Mutual Reinsurance
Plan Inc. (FMRP) of which we are part owners. In the event of
an unusually large claim or a catastrophe we may need help from
the FMRP.
